Indian Railways: NFT-Based Tickets for MahaKumbh Mela 2025

Gone are paper tickets, hello virtual tickets! Indian Railways are introducing non-fungible tokens (NFT)-based train tickets for passengers attending the MahaKumbh Mela, a major Hindu pilgrimage that's held once every 144 years.

This groundbreaking initiative, developed in partnership with Chaincode Consulting, uses the Polygon blockchain to provide secure, verifiable, and environmentally sustainable tickets for the millions of passengers be making the journey.

A Blockchain-Powered Pilgrimage

The collaboration with Chaincode Consulting was first announced on January 13, 2025. These NFTs, minted on the Polygon blockchain, will act as unique entry passes for passengers, ensuring greater transparency, fraud protection, and increased security. The NFTs will be managed via the Real World Assets (RWA) platform, NFTtrace.

Alok Gupta, CEO of Chaincode Consulting, said: "By partnering with IRCTC and leveraging the Polygon blockchain, we are enabling a digital-first experience that complements the spiritual and traditional significance of the Mahakumbh while introducing a new level of engagement through NFTs."
